Lexicon - Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
Lexicon is a free daily word puzzle game. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
Playing without an account
You can play Lexicon without creating an account. When you play anonymously:
- A random identifier is stored in your browser's local storage to track your streak and game history on this device. This identifier is not linked to your identity.
- Your approximate country and region are detected from your network connection (via request headers) and used to show regional leaderboard stats. This location data is stored alongside your game sessions.
- Your game scores, hints revealed, and completion status are stored on our server.
Creating an account
When you create an account (via email/password, Google, or Apple sign-in), we additionally collect and store:
- Your email address and display name (from your sign-in provider)
- Your self-reported country and, for US users, state
When you sign in for the first time, your previous anonymous game history from this device is automatically linked to your account. This lets your streak and stats carry over. This linking happens once per device.
How we use your data
- Game session data (scores, streaks, hints) is used to calculate leaderboards, percentiles, and personal stats.
- Country and region data is used for regional leaderboard rankings.
- Email and display name are used only to identify your account to you. We do not send marketing emails or share your email with anyone.
Third-party services
- Firebase Authentication (Google) handles sign-in. Their privacy policy: firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Railway hosts the API server.
- Netlify hosts the frontend and provides geographic location headers.
We do not use analytics services, advertising networks, or tracking pixels. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties.
Data retention
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. Game session data for anonymous users is kept indefinitely (it is not linked to any identity). If you delete your account, your personal data (email, name, country, region) is permanently removed and your game sessions are anonymized.
Your rights
You can:
- View your data via the game's stats screen and profile settings.
- Update your location at any time via profile settings.
- Delete your account via profile settings. This permanently removes your personal data and anonymizes your game history. This action cannot be undone.
For data access requests or questions, use the contact form on this site.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. Continued use of Lexicon after changes constitutes acceptance.
